    NOTE:
Postal delays caused by the pandemic are affecting
delivery of parcels. In the USA, most delays are minimal. Shipping to other countries is currently taking at least several days to a week or more longer than usual. Please keep this in mind while bidding.
    Species:
Fluorapatite, Calcite on altered Lamproite (an exotic igneous rock)
    Locality:
    Nuestra Señora del Carmen Mines,
La Celia lamproite outcrops, Jumilla, Murcia, Spain
    Size:
    Miniature/small cabinet - 5.5 x 5.0 x 3.3 cm
    Weight:
    69.0 g
    Number:
    2511
    Details:
A really cool specimen from a classic Spanish locality (gold star for fluorapatite on Mindat.org). In the late 18th century, crystals from this site were studied by giants of mineralogical history such as
Proust, Romé de L'Isle and Haüy, and were important in establishing the existence of the species.
Crowds of lustrous, gemmy greenish-yellow "asparagus stone" fluorapatite crystals fluoresce pink under longwave and shortwave UV, accompanied by a
    druse
of white calcite crystals that glow blue-white. I don't know what the pink-orange mineral is surrounding the
    fluorapatite
; I'm going to try to get a sample analyzed. The lamproite matrix looks like nougat candy - it's a rare, high-potassium mafic igneous rock.
NOTE: TO VIEW FLUORESCENCE, YOU NEED A QUALITY ULTRAVIOLET LIGHT WITH A UV FILTER!
The better the UV source, the better fluorescent minerals look. Cheap "UV" flashlights without filters will not provide satisfactory results!
The photos here are taken using Convoy S2 and C8 (longwave-365)
    and UV
Systems SuperBright II (shortwave-254) lamps, metered
and exposed to show fluorescent response to best advantage.
Key factors include lamp wattage, UV spectrum and filtration, as well as distance from lamp to specimen. For best results with any UV source, observe against a dark, non-fluorescent, non-reflective background, in complete darkness with eyes adapted. For extended viewing, use protective UV-absorbing goggles.
