    Description

In April 2021 we returned to the Campo Bonito mining area, famous for its tungsten and gold mines, south of Oracle, AZ.  This time we discovered a rather spectacular new vein in one of the mine adits!  This 1 lb. 2.8 oz. specimen is one of the larger pieces that we brought back.
In daylight the rock looks tan and light grey with small dark patches (photo #6).
Under short wave lamp the rock has absolutely gorgeous artwork of
    bright blue scheelite
    and
    bright red calcite
with great coverage, so it's an excellent example of the beauty of Campo Bonito specimens (photos #1-4).
Using our Convoy S2 long wave flashlight, one face has a mystery mineral or substance that glows bright yellow (photo #5).  We soaked it in bleach, scrubbed it with dish soap, and then scraped it with a knife, and it's still there.  We have no idea what this is!
Photo #7:  Ken takes a well-deserved break from hard rock mining with Molly, our Border Collie.
    Weighs 1 lb. 2.8 oz. & measures 5.5 x 2.0 x 1.75 inches.  (#CB-52).
