    Description

    Calcite on
    Fossil Clam Shell
    weight= 1 lb.. 2 oz.
    4.5" x 3.5" x 2"
    This is a fossil clam with Golden Calcite. This is one of the more unusual pieces found, the calcite filled in the entire void of the clam, then later one side decayed showing all the awesome calcite.  These types fluoresce nice, using a UV Light, this
    piece will show a slight yellow fluorescence, but a even brighter but short lived green phosphoresce, maybe 2-3 seconds.
    On a matrix of smaller fossils, and shellstone.  The clams, also known as Mercenaria Permagana is
    a
    round 1.8 to 2 million years old.  From Rucks Pit near Okeechobee, Florida.  Mangrove trees that grew for many years over the limestone helped to leach out the calcite into the lower level of fossilized clams and other shells.  A really wild combination of
    time, minerals, plants, and animals that gives us these awesome minerals!
