Description
In June 2020 we made our first rockhounding trip to Beaver County in southern Utah. Some of more interesting specimens that we found were pretty pink dolomite from the Horn Silver Mine (photos #5 & 6).Under short wave lamp the dolomite glows
bright red,
and a whitish daylight mineral, most likely magnesite (MgCO3), glows a
pretty blue color
(photos #1-4). This specimen is unique in that it has "artwork" in both colors (thin veins of both minerals) visible in the SW photos.
Photo #7 & 8: Two different views of the Horn Silver Mine area, taken from the desert below. Ellie looks for rabbits to chase in photo #7.
Photo #9: "Beehive" coke ovens at the nearby Frisco mine.
Weighs 6.6 oz. & measures 3.0 x 2.25 x 1.625 inches. (#HS-08).
