JH14021 Rare Green Phantom Chrome Fluorite, Penas Blancas, Colombia

Up for bid is a rare fluorite specimen with Green Phantoms from Penas Blancas,
Colombia
. The Green Phantoms are due to chromium inclusions. This is an exceptional specimen with a perfect triangular Phantom deep within the Fluorite crystal.
The fluorite has an interesting fluorescent response. It fluoresces the classic blue under LW but is Pinkish and Phosphorescent under SW. The Phantoms have brighter fluorescent response than the surrounding Fluorite. This indicates the Phantom areas picked up additional fluorescent activators that cause brighter fluorescence at the same time the picked up the Chromium that causes the daylight Green color. Mindat provides the following information on the Peñas Blancas Mine: Also known as the Peña Blanca Mine. Most northern of all emerald mines in the Western Emerald Bearing Belt (Boyacá, Colombia), also known as the Vasquez - Yacopí Disctrict. The mineralogy of Peñas Blancas is very different from that found in the other mines in Colombia, particulary because of the absence of pyrite and other sulphides and the presence of fluorite crystals of up to 40 cm between aristes.
