JH16744 Fluorescent Diopside, Bancroft, Ontario, Canada

Description

Up for bid is specimen of solid Diopside that I am assuming comes from Bancroft, Ontario. The Diopside fluoresces Blueish-White under SW UV.
Diopside from Bancroft Ontario is very similar to the material from the Lake Valhalla Quarry in New Jersey. The Bancroft Diopside is usually associated with other fluorescent minerals like Phlogopite, Chondrite and Calcite. The Diopside in the Bancroft specimens I have seen ranges from small isolated grains to patches an inch across, so a solid 3.2” specimen is certainly possible. Every piece of the Lake Valhalla material I have seen is solid Diopside. This specimen came from old dealer stock I bought and was in the flat Marked Bancroft Ontario so that is how I am labeling it. That dealer also carried Lake Valhalla specimens so there is the possibility of a mix up over the decades.
