Here's what the original seller well-known mineral dealer Rob Lavinsky said:
"A striking and classic example of the epitaxial growth of Gitter Quartz on a large, sharply terminated Orthoclase Feldspar crystal. The smoky quartz crystals range up to 4.0 cm long and the isolated 2.0 cm crystal sticking out of the termination edge is dramatic. Most are pristine and actually gemmy, but the faces are generally frosted. One side is covered with a large amount of fluorescent, neon-green, Hyalite Opal. A few gently bruised crystals and broken crystals are noted. A visually impressive 360-degree piece with every turn presenting an entirely different perspective!"
The Hyalite Opal fluoresces a brilliant neon green. The Orthoclase Feldspar is non-fluorescent. Gitter Quartz from Namibia are very rare but this large, aesthetic specimen is the best I was able to collect for my 14 year Geo Safari Research Project on all the fluorescent minerals of Africa. It's a fascinating one-of-a-kind piece. That's why the price must remain high.
