    Description

    Mayan celt/adze from the Classic Period c. 300 - 550 AD from Kaminaljuyu.  This artifact was found on the surface of the important Maya site on the outskirts of Guatemala City around 1963 as residential development was gaining strength.  Artifacts abounded and this is one.  Shows a beautiful patina and appears to have been used/handled after its useful period was ended; note the smooth edges of the concoidal chips.  the blade is perfect on one side with few small chips on the other.  I do not know the stone. Measure approx  3.5 x 1.5 x .75.
