Description
Noritake 10.5” Cake Plate & 2-part 8” Handled Dish, Christmas Ball PatternThe exquisite vintage cake plate with handles and the 2-part handled “butterfly” dish in the Christmas Ball pattern #175, are white porcelain with a pale yellow/cream border, hand painted with heavy 24 K raised gold flowers and scrolls, made in a Japan. The pattern is known as the Christmas Ball pattern because the trim resembles Christmas balls. (The china does look beautiful on a holiday table, but equally as lovely all year long.). # 175 is also known as #16034. The dishes, which belonged to my grandmother, dating to the 1940’s or before, were only used on special occasions. They are in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or gilt loss. The handle of the two-part dish seems a tiny bit rubbed from use. The pattern, made from 1906 to 1992, except for war years, is known to be one of the most beautiful china sets made by Noritake. The green M back stamp designates 1906-1940 and refers to the Morimura brothers who helped begin the company. I have other pieces of this china listed on eBay.
