VINTAGE CEREMONIAL HUIPIL, PATZUN GUATEMALA TEXTILE BLOUSE – SILK EMBROIDERY

Description

Vintage two panel ceremonial huipil from Patzun, Guatemala. From the mid 20
th
century. Beautiful mostly red base with complex stripes of white, blue, yellow and dark green. Neck hole is trimmed with indigo fabric and embroidered in a “sun” pattern. All the embroidery is silk floss. All seams are closed with decorative randas in cotton and wool yarn. Panels each have four selvages. Loosely woven area in each panel, which is typical of Patzun huipiles.
Good condition with minor fading, some minor thread pulls and minor stains.
Some minor dye run of blue silk floss. Small area of bottom edge wear. Needs to be ironed as there are some wrinkles. Se
