    Vintage Hand Carved Guatemala Mayan Chief Mask with Quetzal Bird Wreath 14” Tall.
    Condition is Vintage Pre-owned some nicks, scrapes, discoloration from age. Could be stained but I feel the patina is beautiful like it is.
    Hand carved from red wood. Mayan Folk Art
    The Quetzal Bird was used on masks of the Mayan ruler, which could be man or woman. In Mayan culture the mask was an extension of their own face. This mask is unlike most others, it displays softer features, and is thought to be that of a female ruler.
    This was an estate find. The original owners were world travelers and purchased this in the mid to late 1940s
