Description
Beautiful vintage huipil from Nahuala, Guatemala. Large size would indicate that it is probably for ceremonial use. Probably from the third quarter of the 20th
century. Typical supplementary weft motifs of fantastical animals, birds and geometric shapes. Dye bleed is intentional in Nahuala textiles. I think this dark salmon thread that has bled is a rayon, though it looks like silk. The other supplementary wefts are cotton.
Good condition. Some pulled threads. Stains, which I haven't tried to remove. Dye bleed, which is intentional. See photographs, which were taken outdoors without a flash on a sunny day. If you would like more photographs, please message me.
