Vintage ceremonial faja/ sash from San Juan Sacatepequez, Guatemala. Probably 3
rd
quarter of the 20
th
century. H
andwoven on a back strap loom in one panel of cotton in red, yellow and lavender stripes, which is decorated on both ends with supplementary brocade, some of it in silk. It has ends of fringes made from grouped warps twisted together.
Good condition with some stains, general fading, especially to face, and general wear as this piece was used
. I have not attempted to clean it. Se
