  • Condition: This vintage San Mateo Ixatan Guatemalan Mayan hand embroidered huipil tunic top dress dates from the 1950s. It is made of an off white unbleached hemp linen homespun fabric woven on a backstrap loom, with a bright colorful hand embroidered distinctive striped star pattern design around the top and neckline. This traditional folk costume dress Guatemalan Mayan huipil has a loose fitting long tunic top over the head style with a V front cut hand stitched neckline, short sleeves, side slit vents and is unlined. The top measures 34 inches long, with a 46 inch chest and 46 inch waist. It is in good condition, has not been cleaned with several faint foxing tiny age spot stains scattered and some pulled threads on the embroidery work (see close-ups). This is truly a wonderful piece of one of a kind San Mateo Ixatan Guatemalan ceremonial huipil wearable art.
