    Description

    Last year
we climbed up the east side of South Peak in the Tres Hermanas (Three Sisters) Mountains to the Zumwalt Mine in search of more rocks with our "glo-hounds"
Ellie & Molly (photos #9 & 10).  Some specimens of white aragonite, like this one, have a coating of green-fluorescing opal & orange-fluorescing caliche (SW).
In daylight the rock has the appearance of a dirty snowball (photos #7 & 8).
    Under short wave lamp the
    caliche &
    opal coatings glow
    orange
    &
    bright
    green,
    respectively, &
    any uncoated aragonite glows
    pale blue
    (photos #1-3).
    The aragonite
    phosphoresces
after the SW lamp is turned off.
Under long wave lamp the caliche also glows
    orange,
    & the aragonite glows
    a
    paler blue
    and
    cream
    color
    (
    photos #4-6).
    Weighs 9.4 oz. & measures 2.5 x 2.375 x 2.25 inches (#Zum-86).
